The Broad Humor Legacy Project

Once a filmmaker has been a part of our festival, we continue to support them in their craft. The Legacy Project gives them a venue here at the festival for their work. In the annual Invitational, any writer or filmmaker who has been a part of the festival can make a short film that fits the year's 3 rules and be guaranteed a screening during our Legacy Showcase. In addition, we screen films of alumnae that might not quite fit in competition to give their work support in our Legacy Screening program. This year's Legacy Invitational Challenge is below:

THE BECHDEL TEST
2013 INVITATIONAL SHORT FILM CHALLENGE

Every year, Broad Humor issues a challenge to all past participants to make a short film with the guarantee that if they stick to the rules, it will get screened. We've decided to open the challenge up to all female filmmakers, though newcomers will have to pay a fee. The films will screen in the festival lounge and we will select a group of finalists to screen in the theater.

Films must be no more than 5:00 TRT and follow these rules...

The 2013 competition invites filmmakers to submit short films that pass the so-called Bechdel Test, a "test" that was part of comic Alison Bechdel's standup routine and which caught on because, simple and minimal as they seem, many films fail at least one of the three.

1. The film must have at least 2 female characters with names who...
2. share a scene where they talk to each other ...
3. ..about something other than men.

GOLDILOCKS AND THE THREE BEARS
2013 SCREENPLAY CHALLENGE

For our first screenplay challenge we are asking screenwriters to submit a 10-page comedic script for an updated revision of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We are not looking for a children's script necessarily, but rather a new take on an old and familiar tale.

The ten pages may present an entire tale or could be the first ten pages of a feature film. In either case, page 1 should be the opening of the film.

All submissions must be hard copy submissions mailed to the Broad Humor address. The title page of the script must not have the author's name nor should the writer's name appear anywhere else in the script.

All deadlines are postmark deadlines.

As with the short film invitational, alums receive a discount on submission. However, ALUMNAE OF THE FESTIVAL MUST CONTACT THE FESTIVAL AT INFO@BROADHUMOR.COM AND RECEIVE AUTHORIZATION PRIOR TO SUBMITTING TO RECEIVE THE DISCOUNT.
